St. Vincent and the Grenadines joins the rest of the world today in observing International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. From today November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10-Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign is a time to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world. Faustina Lewis, Project Field Officer at the Gender Affairs Division says there have been a lot of reported cases by women who have been abused. She said men are the main perpetrators and they have decided to try to get to the men by working with them, which will help to stop the violence against women. According to NBC News, Ms. Lewis said the reports of abuse have been overwhelming. She also highlighted the types of abuses some of these women encounter which include physical, verbal and sexual abuse. International Day to end violence against women is being observed under the theme “Working with Men and Boys.” |
