In Vincy (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) we have what is known as Tri Tri season. Tri Tri pronounced to some locals as Chi Chi”. The Tri Tri fish, also known to some as The West Indian Whitebait. In most cultures or natives familiar to its existance normally prepared similar to saltfish cakes and even boiled. When some of our families abroad can’t get hold of our fresh Tri Tri in the US, be it through a family member or friend packing it in their suitcase with them wrapped in newspaper, some would suffice with Japanese White or Sea Silver Fish. Other names for this fish are Icefish or Noodlefish. This fish is white in appearance, while Tri Tri has more distinct physical features. I never tried the silver fish and i’m not too thrilled to do so any time soon. Reason being it’s a frozen product and i’m sure it wouldn’t be the same. The adult Tri Tri ranges in lengths of 3½- 4½ inches while the young tri tri ranges in lengths of ¼- 1 ¼ inches. In the dry season the adult Tri tri migrates down stream to the sea where they lay their eggs probably near the river from where they descend and then apparently die as no adult fish are ever seen to return. The young tri tri or young fry ascend the rivers by the thousands in the wet season (preferably August September and October). "Like chameleons, they harmonize quite well to their surroundings." The tenacity of life of the young tri tri is remarkable. They can be found in stream in Grenada and Dominica. Also caught in Bequia. In fact I’ve met ith a Dominican lady (lovely lady) a few years ago who shared with me some of her Tri Tri preparations, one of which she boils in the tri tri in a flavored coconut broth. It was a few years ago so that’s all I remembered lol. The tri tri fish is found at the mouth of the river, “weh e rivah does meet e sea” as some locals may say. Some of the more known locations are the Layou river, Richmond river and Walliabou river. “Tri Tri” comes shortly after the quarter moon. Locals would set their tents up camping out at night as “Catching Tri Tri” requires patience and help in numbers whether be it for leisure or business. At the mouth of the river, sheets, or as some locals know it as “rugs” are spread out using large cuts of meshes with rocks to submerge them and sticks to keep them wide open, placing palm leaves at the base as well to keep them their and as the dawn breaks, and the sun throws its first light on the sea, they can be seen glistening in the water, like thick soup or as others have seen proof of a big ball comprised of a school of fish bursting out in the waters of the sea heading to the shores by the river. Some even link lighting to the nearing of Tri Tri season. In the old days people used to tell each other with beaming excitement “Tri Tri ah come” and so locals gather with buckets by their numbers or anything that can be filled. It is considered a profit for over the years as one large bucket can cost hundreds where they are taken to fish market and sold by the scoop in the white 5lb plastic bags.
For video on how Tri-Tri are caught please continue. The best way to carry on with our lives to the maximum capacity without settling is to know your worth. Satisfaction starts with you, not your conditions. Be it at work or anyplace else, it is completely your obligation to transform yourself to keep yourself happy. So, Is your current job compromising your happiness? Is it OK to Quit Your Job? Rhonda Suder of Top Resume says that "It’s OK to quit your job — once you decide that’s the right decision for you." When it comes to your job, you can either be “engaged” in your work, “actively disengaged,” or somewhere in between? In a 2018 Gallup poll, 34 percent of U.S. employees surveyed were "engaged," meaning they were “involved in, enthusiastic about, and committed to their work and workplace.” Meanwhile, 13 percent were “actively disengaged” and having a poor or miserable work experience. The remaining 53 percent were "not engaged" at work, meaning they were generally satisfied but wouldn't hesitate to leave if a better offer came along. While the number of disengaged workers has gone down over the past few years, these numbers still imply that there are a lot of unhappy professionals out there. Where do you fall? You have the right to be happy at work — why would you want it to be any other way? If you are not happy and find you are miserable most of the time, then it's time to evaluate your work environment to identify what it is that's making you so unhappy. Whether you’re a successful Broker on Wall Street, or an entry-level Clerk at a local department store, always position yourself to be valued for your competencies and skills, and not merely for your position within an organization. The world may know of your job title; but in the unfortunate event that your tenure within that organization comes to an end (for whatever reason), the real test will be found in your value proposition - those core skills and competencies that determine whether or not you can be considered an invaluable asset to ANY organization. When you become a person of value, you are positioning yourself to access opportunities that would have otherwise been inaccessible. So avoid expending too much energy on attaining titles and positions - those will eventually come your way. However, you must first focus on perfecting your skills and competences within a particular area of expertise - to the extent that gate-keepers will no longer be able to ignore you. In the book A Defense of Abortion, author and philosopher David Boonin writes: “A human fetus, after all, is simply a human being at a very early stage in his or her development.” If we acknowledge the humanity of the preborn child, one must further ask – does every human being have a right to life? Or is this right held only by those humans with particular characteristics that come and go at various points throughout their lives? Pro-life apologist and frequent Focus on the Family Broadcast guest, Scott Klusendorf, shares the following: Pro-life advocates contend there is no morally significant difference between the embryo you once were and the adult you are today that would justify killing you at that earlier stage of development. Differences of size, level of development, environment and degree of dependency are not good reasons for saying you had no right to life then but you do now. Author Stephen Schwarz developed the acronym SLED as a helpful reminder of these non-essential differences: Size: You were smaller as an embryo, but since when does your body size determine value? Level of Development: It’s true that you were less developed as an embryo, but 6-month-olds are less physically and mentally developed than teenagers, and we don’t argue that we can kill them. Environment: Where you are located has no bearing on what you are. How does a journey of 8 inches down the birth canal change the essential nature of the unborn from a being we can kill to one we can’t? Degree of Dependency: Sure, you depended on your mother for survival while in the womb, but since when does dependence on another human mean we can kill you? (Consider conjoined twins, for example.) In short, humans are equal by nature, not function. Although they differ immensely in their respective degrees of development, they are nonetheless equal because they share a common human nature – and they had that human nature from the moment they began to exist. If I am wrong about this, then human equality is a fiction. Think, for a moment, about your 10 closest friends. Would you agree that each of them has the same basic rights and that each should be treated equally? Yet if all of them should be treated equally, there must be some quality they all share that justifies that equal treatment. What is that characteristic? Only this: We all have the same human nature. Happy World Tuberculosis Day Everyone! World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, falls on March 24th every year and is intended to assemble open mindfulness that tuberculosis today remains a plague in a great part of the world, causing the passing of almost one-and-a-half million individuals every year, for the most part in creating nations. This day recognizes the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch amazed mainstream researchers by declaring that he had found the reason for tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. At the season of Koch's declaration in Berlin, TB was seething through Europe and the Americas, causing the demise of one out of each seven individuals. Ok, so last week, we got you into the hype of International Women’s Day (IWD). And this week I started telling you about Youth development and I mentioned how the OECS is helping youths, including myself. But I didn’t take time to tell you who is the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States(OECS). I know it’s here on the site but sometimes we over look these things. So, here goes… The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is a between administrative association devoted to financial harmonisation and coordination, security of human and legitimate rights, and the support of good administration among nations and conditions in the Lesser Antilles in the Eastern Caribbean. The OECS is a ten-part grouping of islands spread over the Eastern Caribbean. Together, they structure a close persistent archipelago over the eastern compasses of the Caribbean Sea. They involve the Leeward Islands: Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands; and the Windward Islands: Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada and Martinique.
The establishing members' states that have full participation are Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Anguilla, The British Virgin Islands, and Martinique are Associate individuals yet are treated as full individuals for a large number of the Organization's exercises, while Saint Martin is non-part given the status of Observer to take an interest in the Organization's exercises with no casting a ballot benefit. Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, and Montserrat stay abroad domains of the United Kingdom (UK) while Martinique keeps on being an abroad division and area of France.
Although six of the Members were once in the past states of the UK, there is no prerequisite for the Members to have been British provinces; be that as it may, the close historical, social and financial connections cultivated by the British frontier legacy of most of the islands, is as much a factor in their participation of the OECS as their topographical nearness. All, aside from Dominica which is a Republic, and Martinique, a French office, hold Queen Elizabeth the Second of Britain as their head of state. I hope this helped you out a lil. Send me your opinion in the comments below and I'll see you next week. Young people are the Eventual fate of each country and inheritors of the earth tomorrow. This announcement stands valid in each sense. Youth represent over 30% of the number of inhabitants in our area and can possibly have a critical effect on it. I’m in my twenties so I know what I am talking about. I have a son. I have friends with children. And every where that I go, every event, every gathering, even the last GALA that I went to, majority of the persons were under the age of 35. Imagine that! So, who is doing what to help to develop the new and developing generations?
I can name eight different organisations that are trying to develop the young people. And you bet I will. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Entrepreneurship Program for Innovation in the Caribbean, TIC Americas, CTA international, the Capital Youth Empowerment Program (CYEP), the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Bank of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG), and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) are off the top of my head organisations that reach out to the youths. I have a lot more to say on this but you follow up in the up coming post. I’ve already begun working on it. See you soon! It’s Finally here! Happy Birthday to me… I mean happy International Women’s Day. (Don’t blame me!) Today, I join with the global community to salute women and girls everywhere, particularly those of the OECS. It is well known that it is the women of our Community who have been the bedrock of society and have been agents of change within our societies. In so doing, they have been steadfast in their determination to improve their economic, social, political, cultural and legal status. This year’s theme “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change” focuses around inventive manners by which we can propel sex uniformity and the strengthening of ladies, especially in the zones of social security frameworks, access to open administrations and manageable foundation. We are now twenty-four years on from that important milestone the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Our governments were among the 189 that signed that historic document which put forward an agenda for realizing, among other things, the achievement of women’s equality. Yet, today, that goal remains elusive. I believe that the OECS remains committed to the proposed Goal 5 of the UN Framework for Sustainable Development: ‘Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”; and am sure they will continue pursuing innovate for change
On this occasion of International Women’s Day 2019, I join the voices across the Region in celebrating our women, those whom we have formally recognized and those many unsung heroines who continue to develop our OECS States. Let us renew our commitment and energy as we map out the path for thinking equal, building smart, and innovating for change for a sustainable development and a vital element in building our region.
If you find yourself feeling sluggish mid-afternoon, fighting to stay alert throughout the day, struggling with adrenal fatigue, or feeling just plain exhausted, then it’s time for a change! Luckily, there are easy, affordable ways to banish tiredness and get a spring in your step once again — naturally. Skip the extra cups of coffee or certain dangerous “energy” drinks and try these 10 easy and inexpensive methods for how to get energy naturally instead. 1. Vegetable JuiceDrinking fresh vegetable juice is a shock to your body — in a good way! Losing the vegetable fiber during juicing makes them easier for your body to absorb and digest. (1) And because less work is required for your body to reap the nutritional benefits, you’ll notice an increase in energy levels. Additionally, drinking your veggies helps provide important vitamins and minerals while also supplying energy to your cells. If you feel an illness coming on, vegetable juice is also a good way to stop it in its tracks and keep energy up before it dips. Skip store-bought juices, which are often loaded with sugar, preservatives and other unpronounceable ingredients — they’ll leave you feeling worse and even more exhausted! Make your own instead, or if you need ideas, try some of my favorite vegetable juice recipes. 2. Improve Sleep QualityCan’t sleep? Spending your nights tossing and turning can definitely make you feel exhausted the next day. While you sleep, your body is restoring and repairing the day’s damage. (2) Squeezing in more sleep is one of the easiest methods for how to get energy in the morning. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try my list of natural sleep aids. Plus, here are some of my favorite tips:
3. Adaptogenic HerbsWhen you’re feeling exhausted, fatigued or stressed, adaptogenic herbs can help. These healing plants balance and restore the body’s natural ability to handle stress by regulating the adrenal system, which is responsible for controlling the way hormones respond to stress. Adaptogens don’t target a specific body part; instead, they help your entire body gently cope with stress, anxiety and, of course, fatigue. (3) Some of the best adaptogen herbs that have been shown to boost energy and combat low energy in females and males alike include: ashwagandha, rhodiola, holy basil and ginseng. (4, 5, 6, 7) Incorporating adaptogenic herbs into your daily routine could help you feel calmer, less exhausted and more focused. 4. Reduce Carb ConsumptionWhile they do provide your body with energy, foods heavy in carbohydrates can leave you feeling sluggish. The main culprit? Simple carbs, like those found in sugary drinks, cookies and processed foods (think white bread and pasta), which burn through your body quickly. Though they provide a fast boost of energy, it’s quickly followed by a crash as your blood sugar spikes and then drops. (8) The solution for how to boost energy when tired and keep blood sugar levels steady? Stick to whole-grain, low-glycemic carbohydrates that take the body longer to digest and avoid the crash and burn effect. Nuts, legumes, sweet potatoes, oats and brown rice are all low-glycemic carbohydrates that will provide the body with a steady stream of energy. 5. Eat Chia SeedsIf your only experience with chia seeds is the Chia Pet, prepare to be pleasantly surprised. These magic little natural energy foods will boost energy levels and provide your body with a lot of nutritional bang for the buck.
The ancient Mayans and Aztecs ingested chia seeds to keep up energy and alertness among warriors during war. (9) For us mere mortals, the essential fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6) found in chia seeds have been shown to enhance sleep quality, boost brain power and combat inflammation, which keeps your body feeling fresh. (10, 11, 12) Coupled with high levels of protein and fiber, which keep blood sugar stable (no afternoon sugar crashes!), it’s no wonder chia seeds are being heralded as a superfood and natural energy boost supplement. Whether we realize or not, the way we speak to each other makes a huge difference in terms of how we are perceived and as a result whether we are liked by others and whether we can have good relationship with people. We know that incorrect choice of words can even start a war. Words are powerful. They can destroy or they can heal. Along with the choice of words, the tone of speech, how you speak to people is also very important. It also implies that not using the correct tone, in some respect, could be the reason a relationship doesn’t last long. Sometimes the impact of a criticism or accusation can be nullified and let it not escalate into an argument if the recipient just pauses for few seconds before s/he replies. Sometimes you just politely ask ‘Could you clarify what did you mean by that ?’ In an informal and a social setup, we tend to ignore. Because people are known to us and we think they won’t mind. Professional therapists know this very well. They are professionally trained listeners. They never interrupt while you speak and know the art of conversation. In my personal life, I have few close friends and they are close because they know how to talk. They are good listeners and it makes me feel good to spend time with them. I’m sure this is how it works for most people. Some people do not realize that constantly ridiculing others or making some personal remarks on appearance etc. does not really go well. It is okay once in a while. One needs to be consistent with people in terms of how we speak irrespective of other’s social status. When parents get irritated and yell at their kids when they do not listen and they continue to behave in a manner they shouldn’t, it is actually the kid trying to tell the parents that they are not being heard and the parent is not communicating to them in the right way. I have known people in workplace who are a typical Jekyll and Hyde who have a different tone when they talk to their superiors and a condescending tone when they talk to their underlings. Such people are only respected for their position . You meet people at work who get some sadistic pleasure in provoking you, challenging your abilities. It is best not to respond immediately. They only look for some sort of reaction and confrontation. I would let them win the argument so that they let me work in peace. People at work seem to think they can talk to co-workers with less power in a way they feel appropriate. ‘Why talk when you can shout?’ seems to be their motto for people in power, when in fact just a polite feedback can do the job. Past few decades, people use a lot of written communication such as e-mail to discuss about work. E-mail communication can be the worst form of communication because the sender’s expression cannot be seen and there are many ways an e-mail can be misinterpreted. Sometimes, people also get e-mails from clients that sound rude or inflammatory. It is best to take a deep breath, have a coffee, think what you are going to reply and then respond. In romantic relationships, once the initial curiosity dies, couples talk in a totally different manner compared to when they initially met. When couples complain that their partner changed, what they mean most of the times is that the intensity of wanting to be each other when they first met has diminished. Either partner has not changed. What has changed is the way they speak to each other. Things get worse when they have kids, when in fact, after a kid is born, at least they are expected to control their temper and speak politely, because kids pick up the mannerisms and the tone in which they should speak from their parents. There could be various reasons why relationships do not work, but one major reason is how couples speak to each other. There are no educational institutes that can teach anyone how to speak. People learn this art on their own. Best is to visit a therapist once. by Sudhir Suvarna |
