Sunday was World TB day. But, like most persons, I only learnt about this day in 2018. Maybe my previous post was your first intake of World Tuberculosis Day. Truth be told, I have a lil fear of needles. Yes. Big hard back man like me… No matter, I’ve learnt what this disease is and the number of fatalities it has per year, and I’m ready to help to prevent this deadly disease. Here is what you need to know about TB. Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne bacterial disease brought about by the life form Mycobacterium tuberculosis that principally influences the lungs, albeit different organs and tissues might be included. TB is spread from individual to individual through the air. At the point when an individual with TB in their lungs or throat hacks, snickers, wheezes, sings, or even talks, the germs that reason TB may spread through the air. In the event that someone else takes in these germs quite possibly, they will wind up tainted with tuberculosis. Not to freeze, it is difficult to wind up tainted with tuberculosis. As a rule, an individual must be near somebody with TB illness for an extended period of time. TB is generally spread between relatives, dear companions, and individuals who work or live respectively. TB is spread most effectively in shut spaces over a significant lot of time. With appropriate TB treatment, somebody with TB will in all respects rapidly not be irresistible thus can never again spread TB to other people. In the event that somebody isn't on treatment, at that point safeguards, for example, hack manners must be taken to keep TB from spreading starting with one grown-up then onto the next. Anything which builds the number of individuals tainted by each irresistible individual, for example, inadequate treatment due to tranquilize safe TB, diminishes the general impact of the principle TB counteractive action endeavours. The nearness of TB and HIV disease together likewise builds the quantity of individuals contaminated by each irresistible individual. Thus, all things considered, all around the quantity of individuals creating dynamic TB will increment instead of diminishing. The vaccine called Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) was first created during the 1920s. It is a standout amongst the most generally utilized of every present antibody, and it achieves over 80% of every infant kid and new-born children in nations where it is a piece of the national youth vaccination programme.2 However, it is likewise a standout amongst the most factor immunizations in routine use. The BCG immunization has been appeared to furnish kids with magnificent security against the spread types of TB. In any case, insurance against pneumonic TB in grown-ups is variable. Since most transmission begins from grown-up instances of pneumonic TB, the BCG antibody is commonly used to secure youngsters, instead of to intrude on transmission among grown-ups. The BCG immunization will regularly result in the individual inoculated having a positive outcome to a TB skin test. Jeronnie RichardsonManaging Director of JSR Communications. I enjoyed blogging this month, if you guys like these post, give me a shout out at [email protected] The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Venezuelan Institute of Culture and Cooperation Hugo Chávez Frías in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in the framework of the commemoration of the Day of the Abolition of Slavery in Venezuela (March 24th, 1854), held the discussion “Tribute to Venezuelan Heroes and Heroines”. The purpose of the activity was to let the Vincentian students know the importance of the legacy of some of our heroines for the history of our country and the Caribbean. "Young people must know the history of our countries, especially the Caribbean. If we know our history, we can know where we come from, we can defend our homeland and love it, “head of the Venezuelan diplomatic mission, Francisco Manuel Pérez Santana said. In this regard, Pérez made a dissertation in relation to the validity of the Bolivarian ideology regarding the struggle for the rights of slaves brought by the colonizers to Venezuelan and Caribbean territory during the seventeenth century. "The countries of our America have a deep colonizing heritage, however our peoples have been led by men and women like José Leonardo Chirinos, GerónimoGuacamaya, Pedro Camejo, José Tomás León, among others who maintained the strength and fighting spirit to achieve the liberation of the slaves and initiated the emancipatory process of our men and women, "Pérez said. In turn, the Academic Coordinator of the IVCC, Prof. Andreína Bermúdez Di Lorenzo made some reflections on the historical milestones of slavery in Venezuela. She pointed out that the Liberator Simón Bolívar initiated a campaign in favor of the abolition of slavery in 1816, but it did not happen until 38 years after the event, on March 24th, 1854, 161 years ago, by the then president of the Republic, José Gregorio Monagas. «Bolívar signed the execution of the decree that at that time gave a conditioned freedom to 40 thousand slaves who were in Venezuela», Bermúdez said. In the discussionTribute to Venezuelan heroes and heroines, Pérez Santana said that one of the elements that influenced Bolívar to defend the processes of freedom in our countries is that he had two extraordinary women in his life, Negra Hipólita and Negra Matea. Two slaves who came from slave families brought from Africa, they played an important role in his development and in the feelings and character of our Liberator Simón Bolívar.
Among the pedagogical strategies developed in the discussion, the students had read aloud sessions referring to the lives of some of the Venezuelan heroines, including: Negra Matea and Negra Hipólita. As a closing element of the activity, the students enjoyed four videos with English subtitles that reflect part of the legacy and struggle of our liberators and our Venezuelan heroes and heroines, among which: How Haiti helped to free the slaves of South America, Bolívar and Petión, Hipólita and Matea and Heroines of Venezuela are highlighted. Teachers and fifth form students of the Adelphi High School on the island appreciated the opportunity to continue learning about some aspects of the Caribbean, in this particular case, about the Venezuelan heroes and heroines that contributed to the abolition of slavery. The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates its commitment to consolidate the bonds of friendship between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Happy World Tuberculosis Day Everyone! Again Happy TB Days and see you soon!!
Ok, so last week, we got you into the hype of International Women’s Day (IWD). And this week I started telling you about Youth development and I mentioned how the OECS is helping youths, including myself. But I didn’t take time to tell you who is the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States(OECS). I know it’s here on the site but sometimes we over look these things. So, here goes… The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is a between administrative association devoted to financial harmonisation and coordination, security of human and legitimate rights, and the support of good administration among nations and conditions in the Lesser Antilles in the Eastern Caribbean. The OECS is a ten-part grouping of islands spread over the Eastern Caribbean. Together, they structure a close persistent archipelago over the eastern compasses of the Caribbean Sea. They involve the Leeward Islands: Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands; and the Windward Islands: Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada and Martinique.
The establishing members' states that have full participation are Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Anguilla, The British Virgin Islands, and Martinique are Associate individuals yet are treated as full individuals for a large number of the Organization's exercises, while Saint Martin is non-part given the status of Observer to take an interest in the Organization's exercises with no casting a ballot benefit. Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, and Montserrat stay abroad domains of the United Kingdom (UK) while Martinique keeps on being an abroad division and area of France.
Although six of the Members were once in the past states of the UK, there is no prerequisite for the Members to have been British provinces; be that as it may, the close historical, social and financial connections cultivated by the British frontier legacy of most of the islands, is as much a factor in their participation of the OECS as their topographical nearness. All, aside from Dominica which is a Republic, and Martinique, a French office, hold Queen Elizabeth the Second of Britain as their head of state. I hope this helped you out a lil. Send me your opinion in the comments below and I'll see you next week. Hi guys. I’m happy you came back so we can continue where we left off couple days ago. Let’s jump right into it.
In 2017, the OECS announced its top 30 Under 30 entrepreneurs. The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) selected two Vincentians, Mr. Javid Collins; Photography, and JSR Communications Founder and CEO, Mr. Jeronnie Richardson; Online Marketing & Advertising. Among the two, were 11 St. Lucians, 5 persons from St. Kitts and Nevis, 2 from Martinique, 3 from Grenada, 3 from Dominica, 1 from the BVI, and 3 persons from Antigua & Barbuda. The selected cohort represent a diverse cross section of industries, including Food and Beverage, Art and Photography, Business, Technology, Agriculture, Sustainable Development, Social Development, Sports, Photography and Entertainment. It is this the kind of incentive that the youths need to find the start needed. Unfortunately moat organisations stop there. Starting a business is hard. Especially when you are starting from the ground up with no exposure in business. I thank God that the OECS did not stop there with me. I was exposed to the Branson youth business development program, and then given the chance to make these post, and I believe there’s more to come. It is incentive like this that will build and develop the youths of tomorrow. Through its Youth Empowerment Strategy (YES), the OECS Commission opened designations for its debut 30 Under 30 in Business enterprise activity in November of 2016 and expanded the naming time frame until March 31, 2017. Eligible entrepreneurs had to be 30 years old or younger at the time of nomination, and be a citizen or resident of an OECS Member State. All eligible applications were considered despite business size, years of operation, and business industry. This I believe is what the youths of the OECS needs. Moving in the direction of Youth Entrepreneurship projects can help understand and also keep away from a considerable measure of issues that are as of now gazing at the nations and clear route for a superior future and dynamic social orders world over. Send me your opinion in the comments below and we will see how we can discuss your opinions in an open forum. Young people are the Eventual fate of each country and inheritors of the earth tomorrow. This announcement stands valid in each sense. Youth represent over 30% of the number of inhabitants in our area and can possibly have a critical effect on it. I’m in my twenties so I know what I am talking about. I have a son. I have friends with children. And every where that I go, every event, every gathering, even the last GALA that I went to, majority of the persons were under the age of 35. Imagine that! So, who is doing what to help to develop the new and developing generations?
I can name eight different organisations that are trying to develop the young people. And you bet I will. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Entrepreneurship Program for Innovation in the Caribbean, TIC Americas, CTA international, the Capital Youth Empowerment Program (CYEP), the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Bank of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG), and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) are off the top of my head organisations that reach out to the youths. I have a lot more to say on this but you follow up in the up coming post. I’ve already begun working on it. See you soon! It’s Finally here! Happy Birthday to me… I mean happy International Women’s Day. (Don’t blame me!) Today, I join with the global community to salute women and girls everywhere, particularly those of the OECS. It is well known that it is the women of our Community who have been the bedrock of society and have been agents of change within our societies. In so doing, they have been steadfast in their determination to improve their economic, social, political, cultural and legal status. This year’s theme “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change” focuses around inventive manners by which we can propel sex uniformity and the strengthening of ladies, especially in the zones of social security frameworks, access to open administrations and manageable foundation. We are now twenty-four years on from that important milestone the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Our governments were among the 189 that signed that historic document which put forward an agenda for realizing, among other things, the achievement of women’s equality. Yet, today, that goal remains elusive. I believe that the OECS remains committed to the proposed Goal 5 of the UN Framework for Sustainable Development: ‘Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”; and am sure they will continue pursuing innovate for change
On this occasion of International Women’s Day 2019, I join the voices across the Region in celebrating our women, those whom we have formally recognized and those many unsung heroines who continue to develop our OECS States. Let us renew our commitment and energy as we map out the path for thinking equal, building smart, and innovating for change for a sustainable development and a vital element in building our region.
In my first post, I promised you two young ladies. Young women living in the OECS that I think are worthy for celebrating for being ordinary, but are doing an extraordinary job in their country and or communities. If you know anything about me, I love my blessed Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG)… the gem of the Antilles. Hold it there, I’ll be happy to begin this discussion on a hang out video chat for all you beautiful OECS islands. But this is not about me, or the Lush SVG… Nope, it’s about the women. The ones we celebrate on my birthday… I mean International Women’s Day. Hailing from the Gem Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is Shennika Shallow-Simmons. I’ve had the pleasure of performing alongside her, as well as watch her in action. Almost out of youth age but most certainly not the heart or the energy. Shennika is a multi-talented 31-year-old singer, dancer, poet, writer, CARICOM Youths SVG Hall of Famer and a Professional Actress. She has a vibrant passion and love for the theatrical and creative Arts and had been performing from a tender age. Speaking of doing extraordinary things, she was the president of the Glorious Dance and Drama group, a member of the Hairoun Theatre Company and Leader for the Remnants of Gideon Drama Group. Her road to success began when she placed third in the national Dub-Rap rivalry. Following that, she won the most extraordinary Mono log in the Gospel Fest Competition and won the best supporting role in the 2011 Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Theatre Arts Festival. Shennika is no more bizarre to the stage and a portion of her neighbourhood exhibitions are usually shown on IKTV, JSRtv, and VC3. She trusts that she will likewise be allowed the chance to do voice-overs and business printing locally. With the longing and energy to be the best that she can be, Shennika proceeded to further her studies and now holds an Associate Degree in Performing Arts. At the point when the open door opened in 2015, Shennika went to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the first Music Model and Talent Showcase (MMTS) held in The Bahamas. In spite of the fact that the challenge was hardened with several members from around the region, she was effective and copped the first spot position. Along these lines, she currently holds the title of the Top Female Actress in the Caribbean for winning the best Female mono log until MMTS Season 2 was held in 2018. Shennika not only showcases her talents in her free time, but she takes time out to impart her knowledge and skills on the new and upcoming generations of the blessed SVG. I like to think of my birthday as special. I mean who doesn’t right? Either way, my birthday is celebrated worldwide. Not really but yes. Maybe one day. No matter, It’s an extra special day. March 8th, International Women’s Day! IWD. Don’t worry, these posts are not about me. We are going to focus on two young ladies in the OECS that I believe is worth celebrating. But first, a little history lesson. In a couple of days, the entire world will be celebrating this day. International Women's Day is commended on March 8 consistently. It is a point of convergence in the development of ladies' rights. After the Socialist Party of America composed a Women's Day on February 28, 1909, in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman's Conference recommended a Women's Day be held every year. According to the United Nations, International Women's Day is an opportunity to ponder "progress made", to call for change and to praise demonstrations of boldness and assurance by ordinary ladies who have assumed an unprecedented job in the history of their nations and communities. The 2019 theme for IWD “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”, centres around inventive manners by which we can propel sex uniformity and the strengthening of ladies, especially in the zones of social security frameworks, access to open administrations and manageable foundation.
I did promise you a feature on two beautiful young ladies and I always keep my word… However, you will have to check back here during the week to get to know these ordinary ladies who are doing extraordinary things in the OECS.
