According to former Commissioner of Police (COP) Michael Charles, who, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT said that while executing an arrest, police officers are allowed to use reasonable force if the person resists, but nowhere in their training are they instructed to slap or beat civilians. The Newspaper reported that Charles described reasonable force as the judgement used by an officer to subdue a person who is resisting arrest. Charles explained that reasonable force ranges from calling out to the individual being arrested, using handcuffs or using a firearm when a weapon is pulled. One person on facebook Nya Joseph, however said that Quote “Dear Mr ex cop/commissioner, go apologise to all who you beat up in the past cause I ain't listening to this... the unprovoked kick you gave my mother in her chest some years ago left her with a lump in her chest and constant hospital visits... what […] u saying now? Is this a refurbished rule? Cause you just jump out of your vehicle and went where the woman selling and kick she off she seat.. in front of her kids.. then your reason was as stupid as you think was drugs she selling? You leaped b4 you looked.. and as a child this stuck with me to adulthood and still there with each visit to the hospital... then you scare the witnesses so no one will talk... but i never forgot your face. We leave you to God.. pray for forgiveness..” |
